Restoration and Repair Mindset
Okay, a confession straight out of the gate: until recently I embodied the trash it and get a new one mindset rather than go for the possibility of restoration and repair. There, I've said it! This applied to everything from cars to my cell phones. When something would malfunction or break, I immediately ran to the idea of new is better. Forget restoration and repair no matter how simple and cost effective that might be. My device or possession would be forever flawed. It was almost as if no possible restoration and repair could ever compensate for the damage that was done. It'd never be like it was again.
Lessons in Restoration and Repair
A series of experiences with both my laptop and my cell phone got me to start to rethink this whole restoration and repair mindset. Honestly, I don't know where this new is better thing came from....how it was so prevalent in my thinking that I wouldn't even consider the restoration and repair route. Perhaps I bought into the advertising mantra put out by so many companies a bit too much. Spilling a cup of coffee on my laptop...my laptop that was not backed up...made me rethink things. I was desperate to not lose everything from work and personal on that device for the last 6 months. I knew I should have backed it all up, but I just never got to it, never found/took the time. Then it was too late. Taking my laptop in for possible restoration and repair was the only solution. And fortunately for me, IT WORKED!
What I got back after the restoration and repair job, which admittedly took longer than I'd have preferred, was my old machine back that performed as good as ever. Nothing was lost! And they did some tweaks to increase speed and efficiency, too.
So, when I dropped my phone and busted the screen, I remembered how long it took to get everything over to my new phone from the last one. It took almost an entire day out of my life and then I was still making fixes for several days afterwards. Combine that thought with the fact that I had not had the phone for very long, no extra warranty, and no upgrade allowance since I'd had it for such a short period of time.....well, you get the picture. It was restoration and repair time. The screen was replaced. I'm no technical guru so I don't really know. I guess everything else was fine because it works great. They just replaced the screen.
Ease of Restoration and Repair
Today it's as easy as ever to find good, reputable places to do your restoration and repair work. Based upon my experiences, I strongly encourage you to check out your restoration and repair options BEFORE you decide to trash it with your computer, cell phone, game, or other electronic device. Yea, it's great to just go out and get a new one. But that's going to cost you and for most of us money isn't yet growing on the tree in the backyard!
Checking out your options is easy when you do your research online. I just went online and typed in exactly what I was needing in restoration and repair. A whole bunch of results came back. Then it was simply a matter for me to go through them all and find someone who appeared reputable. I like doing business with people that I've either heard of or who come highly recommended. Online companies like eBay offer me some safety in knowing that they've been around for awhile and are watching out for their customer base because they want to stay around. So, I'm pretty comfortable doing restoration and repair business with people there and in similar places. I like them because of the cost savings.
Many traditional retailers offer restoration and repair options, too. Just be careful that you know the warranty details before handing over your money.
